π¨π¨π¨π¨π¨Review: The Pain Colony by Shanon Hunt π¨π¨π¨π¨π¨
The Pain Colony by Shanon Hunt
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
What did I like?
I picked this up from Audible because two of my favorite narrators—Noah Michael Levine and Erin deWard—were voicing this. In addition, the premise of the story looked like my kind of tale—mysterious with a hint of crazy—so I had to give it a try.

I wasn’t disappointed. Not only was the narration (as always) amazing, but Shannon Hunt constructs this in the fashion of a true mystery.

For instance, you meet a few characters, one of whom is Allison, the mistress of her fugitive boss. You think she’s going to be this cookie-cutter version of a woman in love though misguided. However, the further you get into the story, the more you realize that nothing is what it seems.

Which I think is great.
There were moments that chilled me to the bone. (I.E. “Your name…It’s mine now”)

At the same time, even with all of the anticipation and tension buildup, I cared about the characters and my heart genuinely broke during some key moments in the book.

What I didn’t like?
This is the first in a series and, according to my own search on Goodreads, the second one isn’t available yet.

Overall?
The Pain Colony is an awesome mix of scientific suspense and hardcore thrills with a twist that you most definitely will not see coming.
While I wait for The Colony, Book 2, you better believe I will be reading With Pain Comes Peace.
