#Book #Review : Shadow Prey by John Sandford

Shadow Prey (Lucas Davenport, #2)Shadow Prey by John Sandford
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What I liked?
The action started right away which I thought was wonderful for a thriller. If you’re going to promise me, the reader, with action and adventure, it’s always best to go right into it and deliver from the beginning. I also liked the pacing. It was pretty fast and breakneck, but not so fast to the point where you couldn’t follow along.

I like Sanford’s style of writing here. He tells you what’s happening and lets you, the reader, fill in the blanks with your imagination.

What I didn’t like?

This was the first book that I read in the series and maybe this is just me, but I didn’t feel as though I got the best sense of what kind of person Lucas Davenport, the main character, is. I see the situations in his life, the investigation, connections, and more, but I got little sense of who he was and why he was.

Also, while I do enjoy his style of rapidfire writing, I would have liked a little more illustration to the situations portrayed.

Overall?
Again, this is my first time reading this book and author and I think I’d like to check him out again. If you like thrillers with nothing but action, you’d enjoy this. It had a couple flaws in my personal opinion, but overall its pretty lit.
