Winter Flower

Winter Flower by Charles Sheehan-Miles
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What I liked?

I was given this book to review by the author in exchange for an honest review and decided to listen to the audiobook version of this work. This was the first time that I’d ever read anything by this author and, like many readers, I’m always down to read something new. First off, I will say that this is by no means an easy read. It was heavily-emotional, to say the least, to watch the journeys of these different characters deal with and (try to) heal from a life-altering event. I personally found myself having to take breaks between listening or I would get too emotional.

There are multiple storylines and points of view, but Sheehan-Miles writes in a way that you can easily follow each one and not get lost.

What I didn’t like?

The book itself was great. The narration of the audiobook, however, was bothersome. It sounded almost robotic and nasally, no matter the character. Moreover, it seemed to take away from the tone of Sheehan Miles’ words. I really had to struggle to hear the words and emotion with which they were supposed to be used. I’ve never listened to the narrator, Erika Cockerham, before, but this type of book didn’t seem to be her strong suit.

Overall?
I wouldn’t recommend the audiobook. On the other hand, I would recommend the written work of “Winter Flower by Charles Sheehan-Miles. It is definitely a read that you will feel.
